Aly & her loot

Cousins

Opening Gifts

My sister Jamie and her family live in California, they came out during the 2nd week of Christmas Break this year. It worked out for Aly’s dad and I to switch weeks so that she would be able to see her cousins while they were out here.

They came over on Christmas Day right before she came home and we were able to enjoy everyone’s company. Aly then spent the night with her cousins on Sunday and Monday night. I went over to my sister’s in-laws house on Monday to make earrings and hang out. Tuesday was a quiet day and Wednesday my sister’s oldest daughter spent the night at my place.

We dropped Jo off Thursday morning and hung out for a little bit before returning home. We always enjoy getting together with family even though time seems to go by much to fast when we are together. I was also fortunate enough to have this week off of work to catch up on some housework and sleep.

Back to school and work we go on Monday.

Last year my friend Elisa taught me how to make earrings, it actually isn’t too bad if you can get past that each set and each earring will have its own character to them and they will NOT be perfect. On the other hand, you can make earrings just how you like them and nobody else will have the same earrings as you.

I haven’t made any in a while but have thought about it on and off. My sister and her family were coming to Utah for Christmas this year and so I had the idea that it would be a fun activity for those who have pierced ears and to also have them be presents. I enjoyed seeing the creativity that each person had and what they were able to come up with on their own.

Aly and I were able to make some to send home for my mom and other sister. I have never had anywhere “safe” to put my earrings and so I decided to make a display for them. I went to Lowe’s and got some chicken wire or gardening wire along with a can of textured spray paint. I took a frame that I had from home and sanded it just to rough up the wood. I spray painted it with 2 layers and let it fully dry, then I cut a piece of the wire to fit the internal part of the frame; basically the size of what the glass was. I then put the wire inside the frame and put in the cardboard for the backing. I hung it up in my bathroom along with the earrings and TADA, I have a place to display all my earrings. The top half is for me and the bottom is for Aly until I get hers made.

Thanks Elisa for teaching me how to make earrings.
