Looking for the right bead

Final Product

Last year my friend Elisa taught me how to make earrings, it actually isn’t too bad if you can get past that each set and each earring will have its own character to them and they will NOT be perfect. On the other hand, you can make earrings just how you like them and nobody else will have the same earrings as you.

I haven’t made any in a while but have thought about it on and off. My sister and her family were coming to Utah for Christmas this year and so I had the idea that it would be a fun activity for those who have pierced ears and to also have them be presents. I enjoyed seeing the creativity that each person had and what they were able to come up with on their own.

Aly and I were able to make some to send home for my mom and other sister. I have never had anywhere “safe” to put my earrings and so I decided to make a display for them. I went to Lowe’s and got some chicken wire or gardening wire along with a can of textured spray paint. I took a frame that I had from home and sanded it just to rough up the wood. I spray painted it with 2 layers and let it fully dry, then I cut a piece of the wire to fit the internal part of the frame; basically the size of what the glass was. I then put the wire inside the frame and put in the cardboard for the backing. I hung it up in my bathroom along with the earrings and TADA, I have a place to display all my earrings. The top half is for me and the bottom is for Aly until I get hers made.

Thanks Elisa for teaching me how to make earrings.

Last night Elisa and I had a Girls Night Out. These are always needed once in a while and are harder to do with family. I was feeling the need to be crafty in some sort of way. I needed to distract my brain from ruminating on the rat wheel that it was on. You see I wish I could blow up my mailbox in hopes that my mail wouldn’t be able to be delivered to me and then it would just magically disappear. I got letter yesterday stating that Mediation is set up for March 24th and I get the opportunity to drive all the way up to Logan and pay for HALF of the time that we spend with the Mediator. You see I think this is obsured as I DIDN’T start this case, I am not the one that is keeping it going and it is unjustified. It can’t go to court cause they would throw it out which I would be fine by. So here I sit, getting $175 less a month in Child Support while this case is settled, in the mean time paying money that doesn’t exist to a lawyer and I get to take a $350 check to the Mediator cause he is $200 FREAKING dollars an hour. I am in the WRONG business people!!!
Ok so back to my night out. Elisa came up and we went to dinner. Enjoyed people watching! That is the BEST and I could do it ALL the time. Then we went to Michael’s cause that’s what we do best to pick out a new adornment for the earrings we were going to make. You see Elisa is Queen “B” of crafts and can , I belive, do ANYTHING. So back to my apartment we go and she starts to teach me how to make earrings. Of course I get the mind set, “heck yeah I can do this!”. It wasn’t to bad, just deciding what to put together was the hardest part. No worries though, it wasn’t like we were on a timer to pick out what went together. It was so theraputic to get lost in looking at all the beads and “playing” really. I felt like two kids playing “dolls” on the floor. It was GREAT!! I am pretty impressed with myself. You know it’s a frienship to hold onto when they create that passion inside of you to be a better person and to want to step out of your box so to speak and try new things. Elisa has brought out so much in me that I have always wanted to do or try that I never thought I would have the chance to do. I just never had the gumption to do it on my own. I have to give Elisa credit for the pair that have the word “hope” on them and the “black” circle. She assisted with the others. I did the ones with the little stars myself and was VERY proud.

Thanks to Elisa I have been able to tap into a side of myself that I did not know existed. Ok, so I knew it existed but NOT to THIS extent.

This it outside our new apartment. This is my Peanuts garden area. I get to take care of it. I am teaching her to tend and cultivate her garden though. This is all new to me as I have KILLED bamboo plants. These are all shade loving plants so we shall see. So far so good. They will have made it a week this Friday.

This is my table that was given to me. I about gaged when I saw it was painted, PAINTED WHITE! Yicks, you have got to be kidding me. Needless to say I have been wanting to do something with it for almost a year now. For my birthday this year I was granted my VERY OWN sander!!! WAHOO, Thanks Elisa!! Needless to say I now have my own patio area and I have been able to work on my table.

This is not the finished product. Just one of the phases. Still VERY proud of myself. We call this Building Mastery in DBT. Do things to feel competent and effective as a line of defense against helplessness and hopelessness. IT WORKS!!! Also it falls under Accumulate Positive Emotions. Build a wall betwee you and emotional dyscontrol through positive emotions. It really works. Just getting the ball to roll the other way can be the hard part but once you do it is amazing. Also just to have the self respect and to keep your eye on the objective helps.

This here is a MIRACLE!! I crochet but DO NOT sew. This is the material that my Peanut picked out. I did this pillowcase ALL BY MYSELF!! YES SIR I DID!! I am so proud of myself I CAN’T stand it!! I am also making a twin size quilt for her bed. I will take pictures soon.

This is the other side. Needless to say I am trying to keep myself “busy” ha, with good things to keep me on the upscale of things as I have quite the plates to spin. I feel like a circus act sometimes. I am sure we all have at one time or another.

Little Miss Calli and I

My Peanut and I

Too cute NOT to!

I think this is the longest I have ever celebrated my Birthday. It started Friday night with dinner at Outback with Mike, Elisa, Calli, and my Peanut! What a better way to spend a night then with the five of us! Then we went back to their house and hung out and watched the girls make sounds at each other. It was so cute to watch Calli copy her sister and to watch them laugh together. The greatest medicine in life is to hear the laughter of a child! What special angels these two are! They have brought their moms UNMEASURABLE amounts of joy.

Little Miss and Elisa came down yesterday and we hung out. Seriously there is nothing better. Never knew I would be so blessed with such a friendship! We went to Chuck-E-Cheese and played for a little bit before we went back to the apartment to celebrate some more.
